Laboratory of Glycobiochemistry and Laboratory of Molecular Ecology of Vectors and Pathogens are seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows/Research assistants in the frame of the C4SYS research infrastructure (
Tenure: one year with possibility for extensions of up to six years.
Salary: 40k CZK/month (gross)
We are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join our team studying tick and tick-borne pathogens. The successful applicant will participate in research of tick glycobiology, and also other projects (e.g. fish spermatogenesis, plasma-assisted deposition of biomacromolecules). Furthermore, research projects in the frame of the C4SYS will be performed according to needs of the research infrastructure users. Successful applicants are expected to develop their own research projects as well. The needed instrumentation is available on our campus. Applicants will be expected to be self-motivated, to work independently, present their results at international conferences, and produce publications in high impact journals. Applicants will be expected to supervise undergraduate and graduate students, teach (lectures and laboratory courses).
Applicants should have completed Ph.D. degree in a relevant scientific discipline and should have published a minimum of four papers in impacted journals. Publications in so-called predatory journals will not be taken into account.
Fluency in English is required and will be checked during a personal or Skype meeting with the selected applicants.
We are seeking:
– An applicant with expertise in HPLC/UHPLC, mass spectrometry (LC-MS and MALDI-TOF/TOF) analysis of glycans, glycopeptides, and glycoproteins, analysis of MS data. Includes also the preparation of samples, methods for digestion, labelling, etc. Hands-on experience with Orbitrap is an advantage.
-An applicant with expertise in molecular biology and glycobiology – cloning, expression of rec proteins (ideally in bacterial and yeast/mammalian/insect cells), protein purification, refolding, lectin blotting, glycoprotein detection etc. Experience with LC and MS analyses is an advantage.

Microbial Bioinformatician

Center for Systems Biology (C4SYS) is a part of the Institute of Microbiology of the CAS oriented towards research in the field of sequencing data analysis and their combination with metadata. In addition to research and tool development, important part of the mission is the training of scientific staff in bioinformatics and provision of solutions to specific bioinformatic problems of individual researchers.

We are looking for an independent person with a professional experience in bioinformatics that will be involved in tool development, data analysis and teaching bioinformatic approaches that will mostly consider high-throughput amplicon and shotgun data obtained by DNA and RNA sequencing of complex environments. The position is foreseen as a long-term, so there is a good chance for extension after the initial one-year period.

We expect that the applicant has the following qualifications:

  • PhD degree within the field of bioinformatics, microbiology, ecology or similar
  • Practical experience in the field of bioinformatics, statistics and coding.
  • Experience with the use of large computing facilities
  • First authored papers in highly ranked journals in the field of bioinformatics
  • Experience with Java scripting, Python programming and the R is an advantage
  • Motivation for indepedent scientific work as well as development of bioinformatic tools on demand and teaching/training and interest in microbial ecology and ecosystem functioning
  • Excellence in English


We offer the work in an international team closely collaborationg with the Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology of the Institute of Microbiology in Prague, Czech Republic (see e.g. and access to interesting datasets produced by the host institution and their collaborators. There is a long-term perspective of the position after the initial period.

Applications are invited for two Early Stage Researcher Positions in
computational systems biology under the supervision of Prof. Julio R.
Banga, IIM-CSIC (Spain), starting in early 2016.
Position ESR6: novel optimization methods for systematic development of dynamic models of biological systems.
Position ESR7: optimal control methods to explain and/or predict structure and operating principles in biochemical pathways.
Duration: 36 months. These Early Stage Reseachers (ESRs) will be hired
for 36 months each and will be expected to pursue a PhD. Candidates
must be in possession of a relevant Masters degree (or very close to
obtaining it) at the time of appointment.
Salary will be in the range of 33-36 k€ gross/year, according
to EU regulations (Marie Curie ITN Early Stage Researcher conditions).
